Do you allow wheelchairs and handcycles in the races?

We do allow them and have special divisions for both.  We however encourage anyone using wheelchairs or handcycles to carefully examine our marathon course, as the first few miles are very steep and tricky to maneuver.

Where can I park for my event? Will there be a way back to my car?

In the marathon you will want to park at Rice-Eccles Stadium or at the Park Place by the EnergySolutions Arena depending on where you are picking the shuttle bus at.  Those running the 10k will want to park in the areas surrounding Research Park at the University of Utah.  We recommend arriving early to find the best parking locations.  Those participating in the 5k walk can park at the Park Place by the Arena as well.

There will be specific shuttle buses taking people back to Research Park and Rice-Eccles Stadium and other buses taking people back to the EnergySolutions Arena.  Those buses are often very full and take a lot of time to return because of traffic and road closures.  If you are in a hurry, we recommend having someone pick you up near the park.  Walking back to the 10k start is about two miles.

Is there a time limit in the marathon?

In accordance with the Salt Lake Police Department, the marathon course will close after six hours.  After that, all runners will be directed toward the sidewalk and we must begin to clean up the finish line.

How many aid stations are there and what is located at each one?

In the marathon there are aid stations at every other mile starting at mile three.  There will be Gatorade at  the aid stations at  miles 5, 9, 13, 17, 21 and 25.  There are “Clif Shots” gel at mile 19.  In the 10k, there are two aid stations.  Each finisher will be able to go through the Costco food alley where there will be an assortment of Mount Olympus water, Powerade, bagels, popsicles, fruit, Jamba Juice and Clif products, etc.

Remember that not all the aid stations are exactly at the mile markers because of logistics in the canyon, etc.  But they are placed as closely to them as possible.

Is the marathon a Boston Marathon qualifier?

Yes, as a USATF certified race and course, you can qualify for the Boston Marathon at our race.

Will there be bags to put extra clothes in at the start lines?

In the marathon, we will have bags and sharpies to write your number in that we will take down to the Marathon finish line.  We will not have this service for the 10k or 5k walk.

Are there portable bathrooms available on the course?

We will have bathrooms available at the Marathon and 10k starts, the finish line at Liberty Park and by all the aid stations.

Do we have to wear the timing chip on our shoe?

In order to be timed correctly, you need to wear the proper timing chip and attach it to your shoelaces.  If you hold it in your hand or have it placed anywhere else, you run the risk of not being timed.  Also, please wear your race number in a manner where it is visible to race officials.  Failure to return the timing chip will result in a replacement fee.
